Kaltura underwent scheduled enhancement on Monday, February 2, 2026. With this update, media owners can upload Extended Audio Description (EAD) files directly to their media in Kaltura. EAD files are:

• Uploaded in VTT format
• Managed from the Captions tab on the Edit Media page 
• Can be uploaded and managed by using the “Add extended audio description” button 

Once uploaded, the Kaltura player converts time-coded scene descriptions into spoken narration to improve accessibility for viewers with visual impairments. Extended audio descriptions are an accessibility feature associated with the WCAG 2.1 AAA guidelines. Previously, EAD workflows required third-party vendor support, but Kaltura now enables direct EAD VTT upload and management, enabling more flexible in-house workflows.
