Integrated directly into UCLA's licensed video conferencing platform, Zoom AI Companion provides real-time assistive capabilities during live sessions and automated post-meeting synthesis. These capabilities operate under strict data protection: Zoom does not use any audio, video, chat, or shared screen content to train artificial intelligence models.

Zoom AI Companion and Meeting Summary are now integrated within the Zoom tool in Bruin Learn, giving instructors access to AI-powered meeting features within their existing workflow.

Zoom AI Companion works silently in the background of your lectures, research symposiums, and administrative meetings. It eliminates the need for manual note-taking, lets late arrivals catch up without interruption, and generates structured next steps the moment a meeting concludes.

  • Eligibility & Pricing: Included with licensed UCLA Zoom accounts for active students, faculty, and staff at no additional cost
  • Launch Date: Active/Available Now
  • Default Status: Disabled by default. Hosts must opt in by enabling features within their personal web settings before launching meetings.

Core Capabilities

  • Meeting Summary & Next Steps: Automatically generates structured, readable executive summaries divided into chronological chapters, complete with attributed action items and key discussion points sent directly to the host’s email
  • In-Meeting Querying (AI Companion Panel): Ask natural language questions in real time without interrupting speakers (e.g., "Was my name mentioned?", "What were the key takeaways from the budget discussion?", or "Summarize the last 10 minutes")
  • Smart Recording Highlights: Enhances cloud recordings with automatically generated chapters, topic summaries, highlighted action clips, and smart chapter markers for fast asynchronous review
  • Team Chat Composition & Thread Summarization: Drafts contextual chat replies, refines tone, and condenses long, multi-message discussion threads in the Zoom desktop client

Getting Started

  1. Go to ucla.zoom.us and click Sign In with your UCLA Logon ID and Duo MFA
  2. In the left navigation menu, click Settings, then navigate to the AI Companion tab
  3. Toggle on the features you want active (e.g., Meeting Summary with AI Companion, In-Meeting Questions)
  4. During any meeting you host, click the AI Companion ("sparkle") icon in the meeting toolbar to start or pause AI assistance. (Participants will see an on-screen indicator notifying them that AI Companion is active)
