What Is Network Unification?

Network Unification is a Digital Campus initiative that seeks to transform the campus-connected experience by reimagining and unifying UCLA’s network to meet the current and future needs of students, faculty, and staff.

Why UCLA Is Unifying Its Networks

UCLA is unifying its networks because the current environment is critically outdated, increasingly difficult to manage, and more vulnerable to security threats. The existing architecture is fragmented, resulting in inconsistent capabilities and reliability across campus and limiting UCLA’s ability to scale and innovate.

Program Goals and Outcomes

  • Design a modern, unified network architecture for UCLA
  • Upgrade campus network infrastructure and standardize network equipment
  • Enhance network procurement through strategic sourcing agreements
  • Migrate UCLA networks onto the unified network over the project timeline
  • Streamline and improve network management and operations

Benefits for UCLA

  • Consistent uptime and performance for campus users
  • Reduction in security incidents and threats
  • Optimized costs through a more unified approach
  • One-stop support and more proactive maintenance
  • Improved capacity to support research and future innovation
