The Enterprise Data & Analytics – Reporting & Analytics team empowers UCLA decision-makers with reliable, insightful, and accessible data. This includes designing, managing, and supporting enterprise-level reporting and analytics solutions that help campus units understand performance, improve operations, and make data-informed decisions. Through collaboration with departments across campus, the team delivers data products that are accurate, actionable, and aligned with UCLA’s mission of excellence in education, research, and service.

Our Services

  • Cognos Reporting – Development and support of standardized, trusted reports for institutional and operational needs. Across the 550+ campus-wide & department-specific reports developed by Reporting & Analytics and the thousands of user-authored reports, there are ~35,000 reports run per month
  • Tableau Dashboard Creation – Design and publication of interactive, visually rich dashboards that provide real-time insights and self-service analytics capabilities. There are currently ~2,500 workbooks with an average of ~15,000 dashboards viewed per month.
  • Platform Administration (Tableau & Cognos) – Provides secure and reliable management of UCLA’s enterprise reporting platforms, ensuring effective governance, appropriate access control across the campus and robust performance including a commitment to continuous improvement. For example, runtime across the board in Cognos was recently reduced by 70% with the most frequently run report experiencing a 95% runtime reduction. A strategic roadmap is maintained to keep all platforms current, feature-rich, and aligned with campus needs.
  • Data Science & Advanced Analytics – Application of statistical modeling, predictive analytics, and data exploration to uncover trends and support strategic initiatives. For example, a comprehensive space utilization analysis was developed to compare multiple occupancy detection systems across campus buildings, using statistical modeling and decile analysis to identify discrepancies and optimize facility usage. This analysis informed strategic space planning decisions and helped the university better understand actual versus reported space utilization, leading to more efficient resource allocation.
  • Operational Analytics – Partner with business units to analyze process performance, identify opportunities for improvement, and optimize day-to-day operations. For example,  Mobility Planning & Traffic System's annual State of the Commute analysis.
  • Emergency Reporting – Rapid development and deployment of data solutions in response to urgent campus needs and critical events. For example, during the wildfire emergency dashboards were quickly developed depicting staff, faculty and students residing in the evacuation zones so the university could provide aid. This effort earned the 2025 UC Tech Operational Excellence Silver Award.
