Bruin Learn (Canvas) is currently experiencing an outage caused by an ongoing AWS incident that started on Sunday, October 19, 2025 around 10:00 pm PT. While this issue is being addressed by the service provider, we will continue to monitor the situation and provide updates to the campus community as they become available.

Piazza underwent scheduled enhancement on Friday, September 19, 2025. With this update, the user interface for Piazza will be updated for all Fall ’25 courses, affecting both instructors and students.

Bruin Learn will undergo scheduled enhancement in Summer 2025. With this update, instructors can use differentiation tags to assign specific content to customized groups of students, without those groups being visible to students. Additionally, admins can access these tags through Canvas Data for reporting and analysis.

Impact underwent scheduled enhancement in Fall 2025. With this update, the Impact “Support Center” help menu will be enabled on a pilot basis in Bruin Learn, supplementing existing help options. 

Bruin Learn underwent scheduled enhancement on Friday, September 19, 2025. With this update, Instructure is changing how Canvas/Bruin Learn interacts with YouTube content. Starting September 22, 2025, YouTube videos, whether newly added or already embedded in Canvas/Bruin Learn, may begin showing advertisements.

Bruin Learn underwent scheduled enhancement on Friday, September 19, 2025. With this update, when the Discussion Checkpoints feature is enabled, instructors can set multiple due dates within a graded discussion to support different stages, such as the initial post and follow-up replies. 

Impact underwent scheduled enhancement on Thursday, September 18, 2025. With this update, all new undergraduate, graduate, and transfer students at UCLA will see a message on their Bruin Learn dashboard explaining how course visibility/behavior works. 

Peerceptiv underwent scheduled enhancement on Tuesday, September 16, 2025. With this update, sections can now be synced from Bruin Learn to Peerceptiv (peer review tool) and will automatically update as section enrollments change. 

Bruin Learn underwent scheduled enhancement on Monday, September 15, 2025. With this update, Sub-Account Admins in Bruin Learn will now have the “Manage LTI - delete” and “Manage LTI - edit” permissions enabled at the root account level, cascading down through all sub-accounts. 

Turnitin underwent scheduled enhancement on Monday, September 15, 2025. With this update, starting in Fall 2025, instructors can enable Turnitin’s Enhanced Similarity Report, which features a redesigned, more accessible, and intuitive interface along with new match type categorizations. 

Impact underwent scheduled enhancement on Monday, September 15, 2025. With this update, Turnitin users will see a pop-up message during the Fall 2025 and Winter 2026 terms informing them that the Similarity Report has been updated and is available to use. 

Impact underwent scheduled enhancement on Tuesday, September 2, 2025. With this update, anyone in an ENGR course who has the +People button in Bruin Learn will now see a message when attempting to manually add a user to their course site. 

Panopto underwent scheduled enhancement on Tuesday, September 2, 2025. With this update, the BruinCast team will transition from Kaltura to Panopto for lecture capture beginning in Fall 2025.

Bruin Learn underwent scheduled enhancement on Wednesday, July 30, 2025. With this update, the “New Course and User Analytics”  feature option has been renamed to “Course and User Analytics”. Additionally, within courses, the “New Analytics” label is now updated to “Course Analytics”. 

Bruin Learn underwent scheduled enhancement on Friday, July 18, 2025. With this update, when users attempt to change the visibility of a course in Bruin Learn, they will now see a detailed message explaining the implications of that change.

Bruin Learn underwent scheduled enhancement on Wednesday, July 2, 2025. With this update, instructors can enable the Detect Multiple Sessions setting in New Quizzes to track if students access a quiz from multiple devices or browsers. 

Hypothesis underwent scheduled enhancement on Wednesday, June 25, 2025. With this update, the Hypothesis social annotation tool in Bruin Learn now supports image annotation. Users can create area selections or pins over images to indicate the specific part of a document their annotation references.
