On January 24, 2024, our IT team identified and stopped an illegal intrusion into the Life Sciences Division IT environment. We believe our actions isolated the unauthorized access to the targeted area, which is 1.19% of the campus community. We have engaged a leading cybersecurity firm to assist in our response and notified the FBI. With their assistance, we are conducting a thorough assessment of the incident, including determining the extent of the impact to servers and data.

Bruin Learn / Canvas underwent scheduled enhancement on Saturday, February 17, 2024. This update gives instructors the ability to allow Observers, who have read-only access in their courses, to reserve appointment slots. 

Bruin Learn / Canvas underwent scheduled enhancement on Saturday, February 17, 2024. This update enables instructors to swiftly and effortlessly transfer practice quizzes, eliminating the need for manual updates to each individual quiz. 

Bruin Learn / Canvas underwent scheduled enhancement on Saturday, February 17, 2024. This update provides additional information on specific question types for instructors to evaluate student responses and provide appropriate intervention. 

Bruin Learn / Canvas underwent scheduled enhancement on Saturday, February 17, 2024. This update allows admins and instructors to easily download data via CSV for a comprehensive look at quiz effectiveness.

Kaltura underwent scheduled enhancement from Sunday, February 18, 2024, at 9:00 pm to Monday, February 19, 2024, at 12:00 pm PST. During this time, users may have experienced potential slowness and service degradation.

The UCLA Information Security Office is aware of a phishing campaign attempting to coerce recipients into entering their credentials onto a fake UCLA 2FA credentials webpage. This is not a legitimate e-mail and recipients should not provide any information or click any links associated with the phishing e-mail.

Turnitin and Gradescope underwent scheduled maintenance on Saturday, January 27, 2024 from 8:30am – 12:30pm PST. During this time, some Turnitin and Gradescope features were unavailable.

Bruin Learn / Atomic Search underwent scheduled enhancement on Tuesday, January 2, 2023. With this change, search results always include scope drop-down.

Bruin Learn / Canvas SIS Integration will undergo scheduled enhancement on Sunday, June 30, 2024 (for Faculty and Staff). This enables people in our community to be recognized by their lived names in Bruin Learn.

As the year concludes, I’d like to share the IT Executive Dashboard along with several significant highlights.

On Wednesday, 12/6/2023, Gradescope experienced a service incident. Our internal testing revealed latency issues in syncing the course roster and grades, affecting operations between 7:35 am and 10:27 am.

UCLA IT Services completed an assessment of current usage to understand the impact of this change and inform a solution that is best for our community. In the months ahead, UCLA will implement incremental changes on the following schedule...

UCLA Information Security Office is aware of UCLA students being targeted by fake job/internship scams. Be mindful of phishing emails that may be disguised as a job opportunity.

Bruin Learn / Canvas SIS Integration underwent scheduled enhancement on Monday, November 27, 2023. There was a back-end re-architecture and migration of existing SIS integration services from on-premise to AWS for the provisioning of Canvas Course sites and Sections in Bruin Learn.

Bruin Learn / Canvas SIS Integration will undergo scheduled enhancement on TBD. Now, UNEX Concurrent Enrollment students, as well as their instructors, will see their Bruin Learn enrollments kept in sync automatically for both their main academic course sites as well as associated TA Sites.
