Bruin Learn / Canvas underwent scheduled enhancement in November 2024. With this update, the migration of the New Analytics (course-level analytics) feature to the Data Access Platform (DAP) will now extend through November 30th. 

Bruin Learn / Canvas underwent scheduled enhancement on Saturday, January 18, 2025. With this update, instructors can now set multiple due dates or checkpoints when creating a graded discussion to accommodate different stages of the discussion process, such as an initial post and follow-up replies.

Bruin Learn / Canvas underwent scheduled enhancement on Saturday, October 19, 2024. With this update, instructors using New Quizzes will be able to control the timing and visibility of feedback and correct answers for students. 

October marks Cybersecurity Awareness Month (CAM), an annual, nationwide initiative dedicated to educating individuals and organizations on how to fortify their digital security. As we ramp up for another academic year, it is a great time to be reminded that cybercriminals can strike from anywhere and ongoing cybersecurity awareness training is important to help us sharpen skills and protect against data breaches, phishing, and other cyber threats.

As we begin the fall quarter, I’d like to share the IT Executive Dashboard along with a few key updates in support of our campus community.

UCLA Media Reserves / BruinCast experienced an outage on Friday, September 27, 2024. When users attempted to play a video for Fall courses on BruinCast through UCLA Media Reserves, an error message appeared.

UCLA IT Services (ITS) recently completed a monumental 15-month project designed to make the UCLA Fielding School of Public Health’s IT services better, safer and more efficient.

In a move to further position UCLA at the forefront of artificial intelligence advancements and to bring focused innovative technology to UCLA and the University of California system, 

Chris Mattmann has been named UCLA’s inaugural chief data and artificial intelligence officer. The position is the first of its kind at any University of California campus and one of just a few at universities in the U.S.

Bruin Learn / Canvas underwent scheduled enhancement on Wednesday, September 11, 2024. With this update, SpeedGrader offers Rich Content Editor (RCE) features when commenting, including options for Heading, Bold, Italic, Underline, Font color, Insert Hyperlink, and Bullets.

Bruin Learn / Canvas will undergo scheduled enhancement in 2025 (TBD). With this update, product discovery will be conducted to evaluate the benefits and drawbacks of creating a dedicated landing page for https://bruinlearn.ucla.edu, aiming to better understand customer needs and the business context. 

Bruin Learn / Canvas underwent scheduled enhancement on Monday, September 16, 2024. With this update, Admin Analytics will be enabled, allowing individuals with Account Admin, Academic Support Admin, Sub-Account Admin, and Instructional Designer (Root) Admin roles in Bruin Learn to view analytics across courses within their account or department. 

Bruin Learn / Canvas underwent scheduled enhancement on Monday, September 9, 2024. With this update, an Instructor Hub LTI for Bruin Learn is being developed. Now, TAs, the instructor of record, and sub-account admins can create a companion TA site directly from the main curricular course site on demand.

Bruin Learn / Canvas underwent scheduled enhancement on Tuesday, September 3, 2024. With this update, the UCLA Media Lab (located in the Library) will transition to a new Wowza streaming media server, the Bruin Learn CoE team will update the server hostname in the Student Products on-premise WebSphere API. 

Bruin Learn / Canvas underwent scheduled enhancement on Friday, August 30, 2024. With this update, the UCLA Media Lab in the Library is responsible for managing the Video Reserves assets and infrastructure that Bruin Learn users access through the "UCLA Media Reserves" LTI tool.
